1."There are more suicides During Christmas"
Despite a commonly held myth that the Christmas season has the highest suicide rate of all the seasons, studies have proven that, suicide rates are actually lower at that time of year.Studies suggest that while the holidays can bring up some very difficult emotions, they also tend to evoke feelings of familial bonds and these feelings may act as a buffer against suicide.
I have worked in the most seedy of all pubs and even the Homeless, the drug addicted scumbags of the world find a way to either avoid Christmas at all costs or to be with any human being for some sort or companionship. I personally have held gatherings for people without family and friends, and collecting the dead around Christmas- Suicide rate don't get any lower.
2. You can "PEACEFULLY Die in your sleep"
Yeah, nobody wants to die painfully, and sadly if you die in your sleep..You are going to wake up, or at least feel the pain for the worst 7 seconds ever imaginable. If you are sleeping like a baby and something goes wrong -you will wake up have a quiet Heart attack and then pretend like nothing happened so everyone thinks you died in your sleep (you little prankster, you). There are many causes to dying in your sleep, that are never painless, and you WILL wake up for them. Lets not forget obstructive sleep apnea(OSA), a condition affecting up to a quarter of all American adults, in which a blocked airway causes breathing to stop or even Pulmonary Embolus (blood clot in the lungs). Suffocation and Heart failures are not a bliss-full and angelic way to kick the bucket. Even an overdose on sleeping pills will cause some sort of pain, but at least you won't make that much noise and can let the poor person laying next to you get a decent night sleep.
3. Dying of "Old Age"
No one dies of old age-EVER. If you are to die when you are old, it will be one of your diseases, conditions, or that evil nurse catching up to you. You might even develop new problems from a combination of you old ones, or just suddenly acquire Pneumonia. With advanced age comes hardening of the arteries, increased risk for blood clots and in turn heart attacks or stroke, brittle bones and frail skin, and increased susceptibility to infections as the immune system fails.
FACT: If autopsies were more common, fewer deaths would be attributed to old age.
FACT: Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). doesn't recognize old age as a hospice diagnosis, and doesn't recognize old age as even a valid cause for death.
FACT: Giving old age greater credibility could make mortality data in much of the world even more muddy. It might also provide a reason for overlooking the health problems of very old people, some experts believe.
It is true that living cells have a finite life span, but that doesn't mean that the organism simply dies because the cells are old. Instead, genetic mutations, diseases, and damaging effects of the environment can foster a specific disorder or disease. As people get older, their cells simply don't work as well, and can't stave off disease as easily or heal as well as they once could. As a result, older people may die from injuries or diseases that a younger person would easily survive. But nothing dies from simply being old.
4. More People Die in WINTER
Yeah, it is a fact that you will die in extreme cold conditions and the cold snap may cause attributes to the leading of death. There are also things like skull fractures from falls on the ice and Men who die of heart attacks while shoveling snow. ( This could be the same as skull fractures falling on tiles or shoveling at a circus in the heat) Many global-warming people will even argue the fact that more people die in the winter, but sadly it is a myth.FACT: Nearly 35000 people died in the European heat wave of 2003.
FACT: If heat exhaustion goes untreated, it may develop into heat stroke.
FACT: Deaths that can be directly attributed to heat have not declined in recent decades.
On average, excessive heat claims more lives each year than floods, lightning, tornadoes and hurricanes combined.
There are certainly deaths and illnesses due to heat waves. These typically include heat stroke, heart attacks, and asthma attacks. There are also Heat Syncope, De-hydration, Sunburn, with its ultraviolet radiation, Hyperthermia, Heat Cramps, Heat Edema and Heat exhaustion.Deaths and hospitalizations from heat waves make headlines whenever the temperature hits very high levels.People often do not recognize the changes in their bodies in hot weather. Or they may not know what to do to avoid the dangers of hot weather.
Heatstroke is a medical emergency. If left untreated, an affected person may slip into a coma, often within minutes. Tragically, some people die from heatstroke - the excess body heat can lead to heart failure, kidney failure or brain damage. There are also factors with children, adults and pets enclosed in parked vehicles.
Older people can have a tough time dealing with heat and humidity. The temperature inside or outside does not have to reach 100°F to put them at risk for a heat-related illness.
5. "Oh, He looks like he is sleeping"
Usually there are three things that will happen with death, and they are not pretty! A lot of people who are obsessed with the dead, or even want to eat the dead would think twice before going near a cadaver with info like this:Purging:
is the phenomenon of someone’s bowels releasing either air or fluid through the mouth, nose, or other openings in the body. The increased pressure within the torso causes a purge of putrid, blood-stained fluid from the nose, mouth and vagina, and expulsion from the rectum of similar fluid admixed with faeces. It can occur on a freshly dead body or a body that has already been embalmed.
Gases:
skin blisters varying in size from less than 1 cm to between 10 and 20 cm in diameter develop. These blisters are filled with dusky, sanguinous fluid and putrid gases. They burst on the slightest contact leaving the same slippery, pink base which underlies skin-slip. Putrid gas formation also occurs in the stomach and intestines
causing the abdomen to distend and become tense. Gas formation within the tissues causes generalised swelling of the body which is crepitant on palpation. The gases produced include hydrogen sulphide, methane, carbon dioxide, ammonia and hydrogen. The offensive odour is caused by some of these
gases and by small quantities of mercaptans.
Bowels and Bladders:
After death all body muscles relax, so anything in the bladder and bowels will be released. However this does not happen all the time.
As the body approaches the time of death and the person begins to lose awareness, it's not uncommon to see a loss of bladder or bowel control. A loss of bladder/bowel control is also very common shortly after death occurs, as the body's muscles begin to relax
6. You stink straight Away
Although, it does take some time for a body to actually start to smell, the typical time is actually around 2 days- But that is only in a normal controlled area, and it also depends on body factors, size, temperature. ect. So I don't ever think that "weekend at Bernies" would have been half as pleasant if reality really kicked in. Heat+clothing + movement would have left ol' Bernie doing the unthinkable by about 3 hours after the duo made a party favor of him.7. Bodies can "Sit up"
Yes a body will sit up to a degree, like a spasm, or a light jolting. Kind of like the ones you get from a Defibrillator, or a hard-core orgasm. They may not sit up as waking up from bed but as gases move so will the body. Dead people don’t just suddenly sit up like in the movies. It’s of those great, creepy stories kids tell each other, but it’s not true, according to those who know.It is believed this myth began during a time when dying people were often pronounced dead before they actually died. The person “came to” long enough to sit up or raise their head toward the end.But as far as anyone knows, this can’t happen postmortem. Think about how much gas there would have to build up for a body to lift up completely. It's hard enough for a fat hungover guy to sit up straight in the morning - Imagine a dead person who has made barley enough gas in its body to create "The death breath". There is also a popular idea that early in the cremation process the heat causes the trunk to flex forwards violently so that the body suddenly 'sits up,' bursting open the lid of the coffin, but this has not been observed personally. Forty-five minutes to an hour is generally sufficient to consume a body, though obese corpses may take 90 minutes or more. Once the ashes cool, they're crushed by a machine into three/four pounds or more of coarse white powder.
8. Turning into a "STIFF"
People believe that one you die, you turn "Stiff" straight away, however that is not true Once the body passes to death, there is some time before the "Stiffening" kicks in, and with time the body becomes lose once more. I have dealt with bodies between the processes and you can easily manipulate the body. "Return of the Living dead" can teach you many splendors! At the moment of death, the muscles relax completely—a condition called "primary flaccidity." The muscles then stiffen, perhaps due to coagulation of muscle proteins or a shift in the muscle's energy containers (ATP-ADP), into a condition known as rigor mortis. All of the body's muscles are affected. Rigor mortis begins within two to six hours of death, starting with the eyelids, neck, and jaw. This sequence may be due to the difference in lactic acid levels among different muscles, which corresponds to the difference in glycogen levels and to the different types of muscle fibers. Over the next four to six hours, rigor mortis spreads to the other muscles, including those in the internal organs such as the heart. The onset of rigor mortis is more rapid if the environment is cold and if the decedent had performed hard physical work just before death. Its onset also varies with the individual's age, sex, physical condition, and muscular build.
After being in this rigid condition for twenty-four to eighty-four hours, the muscles relax and secondary laxity (flaccidity) develops, usually in the same order as it began. The length of time rigor mortis lasts depends on multiple factors, particularly the ambient temperature. The degree of rigor mortis can be determined by checking both the finger joints and the larger joints and ranking their degree of stiffness on a one- to three- or four-point scale. Many infant and child corpses will not exhibit perceptible rigor mortis. This decreased perceptible stiffness may be due to their smaller muscle mass.
9. Statistics are ALWAYS right
One thing that people will never understand is that numbers form the Media (No matter what the source) are always wrong. If all numbers were correct just about everyone you know would have a life-threatening illness and hardly anyone would really die. For example; They tell you what the road tolls are on the holiday seasons, but they always exclude people on motorbikes, cyclists and other deaths on the road. They don't even tally up every fatality on the road because the number would be too hard to count up. The annual reports on death are never correct either as many go UN-recorded, The coroners tally alone for last years "number of deaths for the country" was higher than what the media said for the total of deaths, and that was only in one state, not the whole country and that was not including hospitals, house deaths, and other non-coroner related situations. 10. The cost of a funeral: "It's worth every penny"
When It actually comes down to it, a funeral shouldn't cost you as much as you think. It normally is raised about 8 times or more the regular price, and you are charged for services that should be included in the package. I'm sure if it didn't cost so much, you would not believe you are getting quality- maybe that's why it is done, or maybe its the fact that you are a vulnerable person who only want the best for your loved one. There are many 'tricks' that funeral companies will do. I find them to be disgusting, I know companies are out to make money but some tricks are just plain wrong. There is no point in mentioning any names as most to all of them do it. In fact if you were to organize a funeral by yourself, order flowers, and buy a casket-you would save thousands. There are even companies that help you with doing your own paperwork that save you hundreds of dollars. But when the sad and confusing time comes- not a lot of people try to save a dollar and just want the "best", but just because there is a large price tag it doesn't mean it's the best. It's always better to check out everything before the time comes, -always be prepared. And when it comes to death, you really have to appreciate your loved one before the time comes because they wont be there to see how many thousands you spent on their funeral in guilt. Time really is precious and things are best said before death turns that corner.
Funeral 'TRICKS' to look out for:
- Plastic embellishments are NOT real gold, silver and expensive metal.
- The average cost of a coffin/casket to be made is $100, and can sell up to $4,000.
- Pained gold and REAL GOLD are not the same thing.
- Transfer costs should be included in the total cost in a funeral.
- Most funeral companies only average a price WITHOUT the cost of a plot, burial or other expenses outside their company that will cost you thousands.
- "Silk" is not a Cheap satin mix fabric from china and should not alter the cost of a cheap casket, look out for imitations and over-pricing.
- Pillows used in caskets are filled with shredded newspaper, and made from cheap plastic material. They are not filed with feathers and covered in silk for ultimate comfort.
- You will be charged for a viewing before the funeral, so make sure you see your loved one go to say goodbye at the time.
- Cremations can be cheaper, but not all the time, considering what you pay for the box to be burnt, other professional services and the keepsake containers.
- Check before a Cremation to see if your loved one is the only one being cremated at the time. Some companies place more that one body in at a time and just divide up the ashes, after all- who will know.
- "Environmental" coffins made from cardboard and even recycled materials don't actually save the environment - considering the glue to hold it all harms the soil and they line the box with plastic anyway. Paying more for this service for guilt of plant damage is wrong unless they actually discover a real environmental way for burials.
- The wood used to make coffins/caskets are not always the material stated to you. They can be chip-Bord, and cheap wood just painted over, or embellished. Don't be fooled and get over-priced for a lie.
