Gig Review: The Art & Attack of the Mannequins +Archetype

This February and March THE ART are setting off on an Australia wide tour to promote the release of their new album 'HERE COMES THE WAR'.
The final show of this tour is in Melbourne on the 13th of March.
Supporting The Art are Attack of the Mannequins who are riding high at the moment after recently playing to sold out crowds supporting Blondie and The Baby Animals in their hometown of Melbourne.
Ding Dong Lounge, Melbourne: Sunday, March 13 · 7:00pm - 10:30pm

The Venue
The Ding Dong Lounge was pretty stale. For a stage with very poor lighting, it was hard to even see a drummer-let alone take decent photos. (The dance-floor was brighter than the stage) Tone Deaf DJ was alright playing nothing put 90's grunge/marilyn manson/silverchair. For a dark place I thought they would have real metal/rock/punk. The bar looked like it was from "Blade-runner", a french "Get Carter" poster on the wall and fairy-lights in the corners were great- but sadly that's the best thing about the venue.

"The Most excited crowd in the world"
Archetype
I don't even know where to begin, but I'm sure if a write up a review I will probably get hate mail for it. I just don't know why they played at this gig - It was as if they were forced to be onstage with a sluggish and unenergetic style. They dressed in laundry and their music was armature at best. I just thought it was weird having a grunge garage band perform before real talent came on.
"No laundry days and an Open Fly"

Attack Of The Mannequins
Once again, these guys went High above expectations- Which only makes me wonder why nobody was dancing, or even getting into the spirit, it was like watching Metallica perform at Sunday church. I was the only one singing and with the help of a friend only us two girls were going crazy. (But in all seriousness if "Attack of the Mannequins" charged anything for a ticket I would be there in front row going nuts) I am still hanging for the release of a full album- hearing "Freaks" blasting in stereo quality would be amazing, But until/if that happens they still have singles for sale and there is no excuse not to see them perform LIVE in all their glory!. They even have new T-Shirts. They really are high Quality with awesome artwork - So I made sure I grabbed a few online.(you can grab one here): http://www.fist2face.com.au/catalog.cfm?seller_id=2784
The highlight of the show was their new song "Insomnia" and best of all -their new (and amazing) drummer Lachlan Taylor, It was his first Live gig and I must say that this band just gets better and better-This really was one energetic show with talent overflow. If you haven't seen these guys perform, bought their single, or worn their t-shirt then head over to listen to free new demos- They are on TrippleJ - So if you haven't been there do it now!

The Art

This was the first time I have heard "The Art" play, and I have to say that they were great. The entire band are extremely friendly and managed to get the dead duck of an audience to finally get into the groove of things- It wasn't until "killing Time" was played that got people to head-bang, but sadly didn't stop a chick in front row to get off Facebook on her phone (seriously). This night was their Album Launch ("Here Comes The War") and the last gig of their Australian Tour, People were there from Sydney just to see these guys. They were Selling T-shirts and CD's. I managed to get a CD signed by the whole band and listened to it on the way home. I just asked for an autograph and before you know it I'm being dragged backstage to meet the whole band properly. These guys really have talent and its great that they managed to travel around the country performing for all of their fans - and after tonight they gained even more. Listen to their music online to know what they are about and If you ever get the chance- Buy "Here Comes The War", or better yet see them perform live at their next gig.
Best Performed Songs: "Killing Time" & "Goodbye"

  2. I was also at the revolver upstairs gig and they were great (archetype). Their lead guitarist and bass guitarist stood out the most to me, both very talented.

  3. It must have been the venue then, I would like to catch one of their gigs again in a better place- Maybe then I can see them the way others have

  4. You clearly weren't listening to Archetype if you referred to them as a "grunge" band so you can't say any of this. Just because they don't need to hide behind a face of ridiculous makeup and costumes doesn't mean they're wearing laundry? I've been to pretty much every one of their gigs and they are brilliant, definitely don't deserve "amateur at best".

  5. And here comes the hate mail!- lucky me.
I said I will see them again, and makeup and costumes are not ridiculous - you tell that to KISS, ICP, Murderdolls, Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie and many other world famous bands. Attack of the Mannequins don't "hide", its their unique style. Besides which we should love music for music. once again.. I will see them again at a different venue.
