"Weird Al" Yankovic, the undisputed king of pop culture parody, has sold more comedy recordings than any other artist in history. In a career spanning nearly three decades, he has amassed 30 Gold and Platinum albums, 7 Gold and Platinum-certified home videos and 3 Grammy Awards (with 11 nominations). Last Time Al was in Australia was in 2003, and 2007.
Wed 23rd March 2011, Palais Theatre, Melbourne, Australia. Doors open 7.30pm; show starts 8pm-10:30pm
The Biggest set-list ever, and for nearly 3 hours of non- stop weird all wackiness the crowd still wanted more. This guy has made too many songs, if he was to play all of them it would have been a whole days event. Opening with a "Polka Party" mix of top 40 songs and Closing with "Yoda" having Star Wars characters dancing on stage, confetti blasting into the crowd with a standing ovation. His array of many costumes, film clips and Al TV brought the show to life. Al Still has had comedic views with his "Atlantic Records Still Suck" T-shirt.
Some Classic songs were only played for the chorus or 1/2 way through and not complete such as "Eat it", "Gump" the "Bedrock Anthem". The "Couch Potato" song was only played on the screen with the film Clip while AL prepped himself up for "Smells like Nirvana" including dancing cheerleaders on stage and Nirvana costumes. When Al was in costume, so was his original Band even if it was Devo ("Dare to be Stupid"), Star Wars, "White and Nerdy" or "Amish Paradise" - They were there for him in every song not just a black- t-shirt in the background. Al was even cool enough to walk though the audience and randomly sing really close to people. His Fake interviews with celebrities were hilarious. Loud explosive Red and White steamers in "Canadian Idiot" and Guitar Smashing in "You don't love me anymore" suprized and amazed everyone.
The Highlight Song of the show was "Fat", With the introduction clip and appearing in full "Fat" costume, with extra chins and all, But then the most random thing to then happen was Santa Clause appearing onstage yelling out "Ho, Ho, Ho", and then 'Fat' Wierd Al punching him in the face, and making Santa leave the stage.
An extremely entertaining show filled with Comedy and fun for everyone...
Except for this poor kid who was forced to wear industrial ear Muffs!
(The show wasn't even Loud, I still had all my hearing after such a long show)
And the dick head in front of me on her phone the whole time, or restlessly moving her head about
