FRIDAY-FRIBYAR-FUNDAY

The Best 14 Punk Films
There may be many Punk orientated, influenced, based and style films. But on the top of the heap these ones stand loud and proud:

       Romper Stomper (1992)
This was the film I grew up on.. but that I mean the one that my family would sit around and tell me that that’s the way I am supposed to act, and that its fun to smash in “gooks” heads. (Aren’t parents smart?) With that said – This Aussie film really depicts what times were like back then with the Asian immigration, taking over of suburbs and Aussie anarchy. These are not in any order, but this has to be listed first as its My favorite Aussie film and one amazing Nazi punk movie.

    Class of 1984 (1982)
This movie really gets you frustrated -When you just want to kick the shit out of the bad guy but you get into trouble for just yelling at him. Defiantly great for punk fashion and the club that they go to is a real hole. Defiantly worth the watch you you haven't already.
Andy is a new teacher and an inner city high school that is like nothing he has ever seen before. The students have to go through a metal detector when they go through the front door and everything is basically run by a tough kid named Peter Stegman. Soon, Andy and Stegman become enemies and Stegman will stop at nothing to protect his turf and drug dealing business.

Class of Nuke 'Em High (1986)

Another Classic TROMA film, complete with  Pat Ryan, Brad Dunker and super sexy Robert Pichard. A teenage sex comedy with drugs, punks and radiation mutations. The pupils at a high school next to a nuclear power plant start acting and looking strange after buying contaminated drugs from a plant worker. It has its troma charm with bubbly comedy and outrageous characters. But watching this too many times to remmeber, lead me to tracking down the soundtrack on records imported from germany and dressing like a creatin for a while.Even if you don't like Troma -this really can be a start into the classic cinema, it really is a great punk film all round.

The Return of the Living Dead (1985)
When a bumbling pair of employees at a medical supply warehouse accidentally release a deadly gas into the air, the vapors cause the dead to re-animate as they go on a rampage through Louisville, Kentucky seeking their favorite food, brains. This soundtrack rocks, I'm so glad I own it on record in mint condition, it features "Party Time"- Zombie Version, Olny availiable on soundtrack by 45 Grave. The characters are so unique with names like "Trash" and "suicide" driving around in a rat car listeing to T.S.O.L and partying in a graveyard. A zombie film with a punk twist and a sense of humor.
Suburbia (1984)
When household tensions and a sense of worthlessness overcome Evan, he finds escape when he clings with the orphans of a throw-away society. The runaways hold on to each other like a family until a tragedy tears them apart. Directed by Penelope Spheeris of "Decline of Western Civilization." This film is incredible, it takes you on sides that no punk film has done correctly. The acting is real - no fake actors in a studio, the music is real, and even the scene with a cockroach being hit with a slingshot is real. Better than "The Outsiders (1983)" could ever do, and another soundtrack I am proud to own on Vinyl, But the disappointing thing is that the Vandals song "Urban Struggle" was not included, so if your interested you best to buy them separately.
Sid and Nancy (1986)
Morbid biographical story of Sid Vicious, bassist with British punk group the Sex Pistols, and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen. When the Sex Pistols break up after their fateful US tour, Vicious attempts a solo career while in the grip of heroin addiction. One morning, Nancy is found stabbed to death and Sid is arrested for her murder. I love this film as it is based on a true story and a fly on the wall perspective of the couple. Defiantly for any fans of the "sex Pistols", or biography films.

A Clockwork Orange (1971)
In future Britain, charismatic delinquent Alex DeLarge is jailed and volunteers for an experimental aversion therapy developed by the government in an effort to solve society's crime problem... but not all goes to plan. It took me 3 times to watch this film completely and properly, but when I did it went straight to my favorite film list and I still love watching it. I can really understand why this film influences many Punks, and with its unique soundtrack and slow motion scenes it has many memorable moments.Stanley Kubrick's work really shines in this one.

Taxi Driver (1976)
A mentally unstable Vietnam war veteran works as nighttime taxi driver in a city whose perceived decadence and sleaze feeds his urge to violently lash out, attempting to save a teenage prostitute in the process. Robert De Niro really played the part well in this film, depicting how one man can only take so much shit in the world. He creates a wicked style with a Mohawk and a trench-coat. This film goes down in history as a great cult film

The Warriors (1979)
A gang called The Warriors are framed for killing a gang leader trying to unite all the gangs in the area. With other gangs gunning for them they must get back to the home turf of Coney Island... Alive.Starting riots and forming gangs faster than any other film in history. This was banned in many parts because of the influences it caused. Hell even I went through a massive Warriors stage dressing in the vest at night, Lissies shirt in the day and getting up to no good. I am even friends with David Harris and own original movie props/memorabilia.

Repo man (1984)
Young punk Otto becomes a repo man after helping to steal a car, and stumbles into a world of wackiness as a result. Although this movie is not completely on the punk seine, the main character (Otto), his taste in music and his friends are. If it was to be characterized it would most likely placed under "cult", referencing itself throughout the film you have to keep a sharp eye out on everything and listen closely to what the characters are saying. The social situation is a bit like "They Live", where advertising packaging is to the point and where something big and weird is going on , but nobody seems to care.  The soundtrack is amazing featuring Iggy pop, and a constant rockabilly-punk score. Quite a gem if you find one on record.

New years evil(1980)

Highly Under-rated! Pit dancing, pogo, shadow, made in Japan, punk hotline and it’s also a slasher. One of my favorite slasher films – I think I watched this 3 times a week during high school. It’s not so much surrounding punks or following them as much as I would like – But its got great music and mad outfits. (Shadow are such an awesome band I got there forgotten demos for free – one day I will share with the world)During a New Year's Eve celebration, a punk-rock singer gets a phone call saying that when New Year's strikes in each time zone, someone will be murdered--and she will be the last one.
The Decline of Western Civilization (1981)
The Los Angeles punk music scene circa 1980 is the focus of this film. With Alice Bag Band, Black Flag, Catholic Discipline, Circle Jerks, Fear, Germs, and X. After the film was screened in Los Angeles, punk music fans got into so many fights and caused so much trouble that then-L.A. Police Chief Daryl Gates wrote the filmmakers a letter asking them not to screen the film again.
American hardcore(2006)
Inspired by Steven Blush's book "American Hardcore: A tribal history" Paul Rachman's feature documentary debut is a chronicle of the underground hardcore punk years from 1979 to 1986. Interviews and rare live footage from artists such as Black Flag, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, SS Decontrol and the Dead Kennedys.
SLC PUNK (1998)
Two punks live in Salt Lake City. The film covers their all-day routine. The realism of the character-narrated movie may be discussed. One of the punks gets ill, stays in hospital for three weeks, comes out again. Three parties are covered and one concert including a fight between punks, rednecks and others. This film is not hardcore, dark or dirty as one normally is. It is a light comedy with fresh styles, acid tripping, cop bashing and telling parents to fuck off. The camera evolves around 'Stevo' and in a "Ferris Buellar", "guide to life" style follows him around his life as a punk. Totally 90's, but defiantly a great one. The song "Urban Struggle" by the Vandals is also in this as well as "Suburbia"

If that still isn't enough - Also see:  "Rock ‘N’ Roll High School"(1979).

It's time for the Legend Appreciation award ceremony. Instead of honoring a person for their greatness when they die, Why can't we celebrate there awesomeness when they are alive? It's not the Oscars, not the Emmys, ..But the Legends!
    This Week's Legend, we solute:
    "Tim Thomerson"
Tallent overflow with an under-rated approach. Tim has worked with the likes of Mel Gibson, Robert Downey Jr, Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Johnny Depp and many more, but still doesn't get the apprciation as he should, His Filmograpghy is great: (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0859772/) Near Dark, Fear and Loathing, Incredible Hulk, Who's Harry crumb, Fade to Black, Seriously he really is under-rated. He brings "Full Moon Entertainment" to life as "Dollman" and Jack Death in "Trancers" 1-5 as he once said: "Helen Hunt moved on to get millions an episode on that new show, and I've been jack Death for 9 years.. 9 YEARS!". Not only is Tim a comedian who brings the fun into any set in a movie (He has done stand up for years), he has stared in many T.V series too including: Sabrina, Golden Girls, Sliders, Mannix, Moonlighting.. this list is huge!, So Here is to you, Tim -you truly are a legend!

    Movie Madness review
Today's movie is:   PINK FLAMINGOS (1972)

    PLOT:
Sleaze queen Divine lives in a caravan with her mad hippie son Crackers and her 250-pound mother Mama Edie, trying to rest quietly on their laurels as 'the filthiest people alive'. But competition is brewing in the form of Connie and Raymond Marble, who sell heroin to schoolchildren and kidnap and impregnate female hitchhikers, selling the babies to lesbian couples. Finally, they challenge Divine directly, and battle commences...
Keep momma in a cage wearing underwear and eat nothing but eggs

     BASICS:
If you wanted to see the most fucked up family who can disgust anyone, then this is the film for you. This low budget comedy is Filled with egg eating, chicken raping, torture, toe sucking, public flashing, and one outrageous script. The film was (and still is) surrounded by controversy and was banned in some places.

    Mills Rating:  10/10
This Film goes beyond where no film has gone before.
There really is no plot except seeing a couple verse a family to prove to the world who is more disgusting. Divines family doesn't really even try, the only revenge that they seek out is going to the couples house and Liking all of their furniture so that the house and everything in it will reject the couple for not being as horrible. Director John Waters laughs at a lot of scenes and wont let his mother ever lies on it. I would post a pic of Divines (Babs) Birthday Party, but that would spoil it for anyone who has not yet seen this film. Lets just say she gets pretty crazy gifts and that party like no drunk you have ever invited by accident to your place.
    "You have beautiful cunt eyes'"
Divine Plays a very graceful role, strutting her stuff down a dirty street turning heads to a classic rockabilly soundtrack. I never understood the part where she steals a steak, takes it out of the paper and places it between her legs before walking out. Maye it was to get her sent on it before the whole family ate it for dinner. If you are not disgusted by this film you will have lots of 'laugh out loud' moments, I know that I did. With memorable quotes and pictures that you will never get out of your head "Pink Flamingos" is a classic cult film and a must for anyone, well maybe not the choice to show your grandma or on a first date without seeing it first.

"Quick my son, Lets lick everything in this place"

This is defiantly on my favorite movie list. Must see if you haven’t seen it, Come on! The poster was every where in its 40th anniversary release. If you have never heard of Divine – you will now. So go and see it!
    If you like this film:
    Try watching:
    "Female Trouble" (1974)
    "Polyester" (1981)
    "Hairspray" (1988)
    "Multiple Maniacs" (1970)

    Hunk 'o' the week
Now ladies, I'll show you the goods on men who don't get recognized enough that really should. I'm not talking about 16 year old Island boys, or Ugly celebs we are forced to see.
I give to you the Hunk ' o' the week:
    Timothy Olyphant

Why?: If you Didnt see him the the remake of "The Crazies" (Made the film exciting to watch), or "Hitman", then chances are you saw him in "Smanatha Who" as the sexy bald millionaire who will do anything for love. Or maybe one of his many other films including scream 2, Die Hard 4.0, The girl Next Door, damages - just to name a few. The future might not have its hunky men from the past, but with guys like this the future seams brighter. Do most American men have great butts? Well for all you ladies out there who don't watch action or horror movies I suggest that you do - you are missing out on way too much eye candy

    SONG OF THE WEEK

This new and fresh song goes out to every aussie kid who was forced to be quiet during the boring news. It might not be metal, hardcore or pit worthy, but it is a great mix of the theme song of getting yelled at.
    (ABC News theme- Pendulum)
