Day Of The Dead Planters- Tutorial
I loved these so much and had a lot of fun making my own that I had to share. My succulents look amazing in these. I usually paint my pots, but after seeing this idea I knew that I had to bring it to life..
You will need:
Terracotta planters
Acrylic paints
Paint Brushes
Pencil
Spray gloss
Any Plant of your choice
How to make Day Of The Dead planters
1. Sketch your design onto a terra cotta pot. you can leave the pot natural coloured or give it a base coat of white paint. I chose to give both my pots a white base coat.
2. Add colorful designs and use a black paint or a black marker to add swirly curly cues. You can also Paint the outline of the design and then fill in the middle with colours. If you are confident with your painting you can also try painting the colours first.
3. Keep adding detail as you go along. Sugar skulls look great with diamonds, hearts, flowers and swirls…
4. Spray your finished planters with enamel gloss to protect the paint.
Pot your plants. I used succulents, but marigolds would be great too. Marigolds are also known as Flor de Muerto (“Flower of the Dead”) which are thought to attract souls of the dead to the offerings (or altars).
