September Special

SONG OF THE WEEK

Slayer: "Raining Blood"
From the 1986 studio album Reign in Blood. Great performance from Still Reigning DVD.The song ends with a minute of rain sound effects, closing Reign in Blood. Described as a "classic" it is noticed by fans as one of Slayer's most popular songs. As an almost permanent addition to their live sets, King and Hanneman said it was their favorite song to play live.

This week we are celebrating my new found love for  "Gospel of the Horns", a black metal band that was formed in 1993 by guitarist Shane Transvaal D (also of Deinonychus) & Mark Howitzer. Originating from Brisbane, Australia.
So for this week, I would like to share a little piece of Aussie gold with you, and give you not one but two complete albums for your pleasure.

One day I might be lucky enough o see these guys LIVE, that is once they get back down under and perform in a little Melbourne underground pub with beer stains on the carpets and dirty toilets with my iconic graffiti on the doors.. so until then, download these babies and lets rock!
(Please make sure to always purchase music from the original artist).

Gospel of the Horns - A Call to Arms (2002)
Gospel of the Horns - Realm of the Damned (2007)

Gospel of the Horns formed in Brisbane, Australia, in 93 and in late 94 they released their cult demo The Satanist's Dream on Einstand Records from Italy. In 96 Howitzer moved to Melbourne where he teamed up with Destroyer 666, playing drums for the Unchain the Wolves album.
In January 2007 the band split up, but reformed two weeks later. The new line-up was essentially the same except for Marauder's rejoining and Hexx's departure. In June 2008 the band performed in Seattle. In September 2009 Gospel of the Horns played their "last ever shows in Europe" in Holland, Germany and Ireland (Dublin).Though the band had announced that they will play their last show on 7 December 2008, supporting Swedish death metal band Grave, at Melbourne's Corner Hotel, they performed alongside Japan's Coffins in September 2010 in their Melbourne live show, and still release tunes to this day.

Opeth - Heritage (Special Edition) - 2011

Heritage is the tenth studio album by Swedish band Opeth, released on 14 September 2011 through Roadrunner Records. The album was recorded in early 2011 at Atlantis/Metronome Studios in Stockholm and produced by Mikael Åkerfeldt, engineered by Janne Hansson, and mixed by Steven Wilson. A critical and commercial success, the album sold 19,000 units in the United States in its debut week, charting at number 19 on the Billboard 200. The album's musical style marks a departure for Opeth from their extreme metal roots; most notably, it is their second album to be devoid of death growls.
