FRIDAY-FRIBYAR-FUNDAY

SONG OF THE WEEK

Manowar - Warriors of the world
From the Warriors of the World 2002 Album, Manowar still manages to rock it hard. I know some people out there don't like them for their image, but when you think about it they are the only Hair Metal Band that can rock to the theme of vikings, after all what hair metal band didn't regret album covers?

Legend appreciation award
It's time for the Legend Appreciation award ceremony. Instead of honoring a person for their greatness when they die, Why can't we celebrate there awesomeness when they are alive? It's not the Oscars, not the Emmys, ..But the Legends!
This Week's Legend, we solute:
"Lance Henriksen"
Born Lance James Henriksen, This man has been in a lot of great films -Terminator, Near Dark, Aliens.. this list goes on and on (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000448/)and Come on not to mention great Television too- Tales from the crypt! and Millennium was a massive hit. He stared next to the sexy Bill Paxton and won over 4 awards, and nominated for over 10. Lance has starred in a variety of films that have allowed him to stretch his talents just about as far as an actor could possibly hope to. When I first met him, he was apologizing for swearing in front of a lady then when I said It was fine he started to laugh. He was so excited that I visited him from Australia and missed out on meeting him when he came down under that he gave me free autographs, loved the poster I brought and invited me to hang out and chat for a bit. This is what he is like - a real gentleman who can swear and have fun like a real person. This is the kind of guy you want at your party. One amazing man full of talent, wit and a personality to match. The only words that I can say about such a legend is : Lance Henriksen- Fuck Yeah!
Check out his book, which is one great autobiography "Not Bad For A Human: The Life & Films of Lance James Henriksen"

Must See Movie of the week
If you want to see something that's not highly seen in movie rental stores, and something not to miss out on.
Today's movie is:   Sonny Boy (1989)
PLOT:
A small-town crime boss accepts delivery of a stolen car, only to find there's a baby in the back-seat. He and his transvestite "wife" cut out the boy's tongue and raise him as a mute accomplice in their crimes. When the grown "Sonny Boy" escapes and tries to make contact with the outside world, the attention he draws to his warped family results in darkly-humored mayhem..
"You are not taking baby away, at least until I teach him Kung Fu"

 BASICS:
The story evolves around the Big Cheese of the town Slu, who pretty much runs everything until he goes too far and keeps a kidnapped baby and raises it as a monster. The real freaky thing is that this film was made from a true story, not to say the events are all true - but the idea came from a real kidnapping in which they made the boy into a killer. David Caradine is in drag, and as a child seeing this film, it took me about 3 attempts to see before I realized what the he/she man mommy was. Brad Dourif plays a great role too, as the punk who does Slu's dirty work, one memorable character for me as he is often quoted from this film. A climatic ending, and three morals that are hidden. Defiantly a weird one, but a classic non the less. I don't understand why this film has disappeared and is not highly on the top pile of weird comedy horror,..I don't even know what category to put it under but its a horror non the less and it shouldn't be missed out on. sadly not one to make it to blu-ray, but it will always be a jem on my VHS collection. Defiantly offbeat, Sonny Boy is a surreal and unflinching look at the ugliness of evil, and yet it has elements of melancholy and introspection that transport it beyond the traditional action-exploitation genre.
The story was inspired to writer Graeme Whifler by a story that was told to him by some bikers that lived in his neighborhood. They told him the true account of a kidnapped child that was raised by an Indiana car thief who tortured the child and trained him to be a killer.

Because of the films bizarre nature and general failure at the box office many theaters pulled the film out of screenings after only a couple of days.Brad Dourif once referred to the movie as "the first real heavy-metal fable." Dourif admitted that he didn't understand the movie yet he was drawn to its strangeness. David Carradine once called the movie a cross between Bonnie and Clyde, Bringing Up Baby, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

This film is weirdly great, and with the ability to still stand on my VHS shelves on its full clam shell cover even though Australia never got the full version. One for the keeping, and re-watching ability -  So go and see it!
